Drive It During British Car Week, May 26 - June 3, 2012 |
Now British cars have been at the core of the Land Rover life for over 40 years, ever since a ride as a passenger in an MGB-GT, driving at insanely fast speeds by a Brit visiting the family on Cape Cod. They're driven daily in all weather (I'll never forget the shocked look on the face of a tire dealer in 2004 when I purchased snow tires for my TR-7). I mean, you could buy ski racks for British sports cars in the '60's and '70's. But for hundreds of thousands of British car enthusiasts, British car driving does not begin until spring or summer.
To paraphrase a nice post from Hemmings Motor News, "dust off those Daimlers, shine up those Sunbeams, toff up the Triumphs, because Drive Your British Car Week will be here before you know it. "
Held each May since 1997, British Car Week is intended to raise awareness of British cars, and perhaps inspire others to jump into one of the most entertaining and rewarding branches of the old car hobby. In 2012 British Car Week will be celebrated from May 26 - June 3.
All you need to do to participate is to make a point of driving your British car — to work, to the grocery store, to Timbuktu, or wherever — during the week. This is your chance to be an ambassador for the British-car-owning world. You could even skewer a myth or two about Lucas electrics while you’re at it.
